I’ve also mounted a GoPro system on special rigging that hangs from a kite. The camera rig has a transmitter and servos, so I’m able to watch video through a small screen on the ground, and also change directions.

There are various pro/cons compared with mounting the camera on a RC plane:

Pro: 

  • Stays up longer since the lifting is from the wind, not motors
  • Quiet, so doesn’t bother wildlife or people 

Con:

  • Only possible in certain wind conditions
  • Slow to get up (lots of winding and unwinding)
  • Tough to change location 

Here’s the camera system (you can see the GoPro).  It hangs from a Picavet rig.
